Upwork
What Nibwright asks Upwork for, what it can and cannot do with that access, and what to do when the connection needs renewing.
On this page
1. Press Connect Upwork
On Integrations. You are sent to Upwork's own authorization screen, on Upwork's domain.
2. Approve the read-only grant
Upwork shows you exactly what is being asked for and you approve or refuse it there. Your password is entered on Upwork, never here, and never reaches us in any form.
3. Let the profile sync finish
We read your profile once on connection. It takes a second or two, and it is what makes a proposal reference your real title, skills, rate and history.
| Can | Cannot |
|---|---|
| Search job postings with your filters | Submit a proposal or apply to a job |
| Read your public profile and work history | Spend your Connects |
| Read proposals you have already sent, to reconcile them | Send or read messages on your behalf |
| Read a posting's screening questions | Change anything at all on your account |
The right-hand column is not a policy we adopted, it is the shape of the API. Upwork exposes no mutation for submitting a proposal, applying to a job or spending Connects, at any scope or approval tier, so there is no write access here to misuse or to remove.
Tokens are encrypted at rest
Upwork's grants expire. When one does, every search on the account stops polling — which from the outside looks exactly like a quiet market, so we tell you rather than let you discover it.
Reconnecting takes a few seconds and picks up where it left off. Nothing is lost: your searches, matches and proposals are all untouched, and the failed runs charged nothing.
Your profile is read on connection, not continuously. If you rewrite your Upwork headline or change your rate, press Sync profile on Integrations so drafts stop describing the old one.
The profile is also half of what every match score is judged against, so a thin or stale profile shows up as searches that keep reporting nothing relevant. If a search is quiet and its filters look right, check the profile next.
Disconnect on Integrations removes the stored tokens and stops all polling. You can also revoke the grant from Upwork's own settings, which has the same effect and does not depend on us.
Disconnecting leaves your Nibwright account intact — searches, past matches, drafted proposals and history all remain, and reconnecting resumes them. To remove everything instead, use Delete account on the billing screen.
