Upwork auto bidder
The Upwork auto bidder that stops one step short, on purpose
Upwork auto bidders submit proposals as you, through a browser extension or an agency seat, because Upwork's API has no way to submit. Nibwright automates everything before that: finding jobs, screening clients and drafting each proposal. You press Submit.

The short answer
- Upwork's API cannot submit proposals, so every auto bidder uses a browser extension or an agency Business Manager seat.
- Upwork's policy says automated tools can lead to a warning, restriction or permanent block.
- Nibwright automates finding, screening and drafting through the official API. Submitting takes you about thirty seconds.
- No extension, no password, no agency seat, and $14.99/month.

How Upwork auto bidders actually submit
Upwork's public API lets approved apps search jobs and read profiles, contracts and messages. It has no way to submit a proposal. So every tool that bids for you has to submit some other way, and there are only two ways available:
| Method | How it works | Who it suits |
|---|---|---|
| Browser extension | An extension runs in your logged-in Upwork session, often in a background tab, and fills in and submits the apply form for you. Upwex's top plan works this way. | Individual freelancers |
| Agency Business Manager | Your agency adds the vendor as a Business Manager, and their system submits proposals from inside your agency. Vollna's and GigRadar's auto-bidding work this way, and require an Upwork agency (GigRadar and Vollna both cite Agency Plus). | Agencies |
Neither is a hack, and both are sold openly. But both involve software acting as you on Upwork, which is the part Upwork's policy is written about.
What Upwork says about bots
Upwork's help centre defines a bot as any script, program, browser extension or third-party service that automatically sends requests to Upwork, collects data, or performs actions faster or more frequently than a human could. It also notes that a tool being built for Upwork does not mean Upwork allows or endorses it, and that it cannot approve exceptions for tools that automate interactions with the site.
The consequences it lists are a warning, a temporary restriction or a permanent block. The approved route is an Upwork API key, and even with one, spamming proposals is off limits. The detail is in Is Upwork automation allowed?
Automate everything except the Submit click
Almost all the time an auto bidder saves is in the work before submitting: watching for jobs, deciding which are worth a Connect, and writing a letter that is specific to the post. Nibwright automates all of that, through the approved API route, and stops there.
- Watches Upwork for you. Your saved searches are checked every 60 seconds through the official API, from our servers.
- Screens the client. Spend, hires, payment verification and your own exclusions, before a credit or a Connect is spent.
- Drafts the proposal. From your real Upwork contracts and feedback, with screening questions answered.
- Alerts you in Slack or email with the opening line, so you can judge it from your phone.
- You paste and press Submit on Upwork. About thirty seconds, and the one step that keeps the proposal yours.
Auto bidder vs. draft-and-submit
| Typical auto bidder | Nibwright | |
|---|---|---|
| Finds matching jobs | Yes | Yes |
| Writes the proposal | Yes | Yes, from your Upwork history |
| Submits it | Yes, as you | No, you do |
| Runs in your browser | Often | Never |
| Needs your Upwork login or an agency seat | One or the other | Neither: read-only OAuth |
| Can send a weak proposal without you | Yes | No |
| Entry price | $9.99 to $129+/mo, plus Agency Plus for some | $14.99/mo |
When a real auto bidder makes sense
If you run an agency sending hundreds of proposals a month through several profiles and you have decided the trade-off is worth it, a Business Manager service such as GigRadar or Vollna's auto-bidding is built for that. If you are a freelancer whose account is your income, or you just want each proposal to be one you would stand behind, drafting automatically and submitting yourself gets most of the time back without handing anyone the Submit button. Side-by-side comparisons: Vollna, GigRadar, Upwex.
Questions
Is there an Upwork auto bidder that uses the official API?
No tool can submit proposals through Upwork's official API, because the API has no endpoint for submitting a proposal. Auto bidders submit through a browser extension in your session or through a Business Manager seat in an agency. Nibwright uses the official API for everything up to the draft and leaves submitting to you.
Can Upwork ban you for using an auto bidder?
Upwork's policy says bots and browser extensions that automate actions on the site can lead to a warning, a temporary restriction or a permanent block, and that it does not make exceptions for tools that automate interactions. Whether a given tool is ever flagged is not something anyone outside Upwork can promise.
How much time does auto-bidding actually save?
Most of the time goes on finding jobs, screening clients and writing a specific letter. Submitting a drafted letter takes about thirty seconds. That is why Nibwright automates the first three and leaves the last one to you.
Does Nibwright spend my Connects?
No. It has no write access to your account, so it cannot spend Connects or submit anything. You see Upwork's Connect price on the apply form when you submit.
See a real draft for a real Upwork posting before you pay anything.
Connect Upwork with read-only OAuth, save a search, and the first proposals arrive on the free 100 starter credits. You still press Submit yourself.
